Why I Named It Phosis: The Story Behind the Brand Name

There is a moment that many women know intimately, even if they've never spoken it out loud. It's the morning you look in the mirror and your skin feels like it belongs to someone else. It's drier than it used to be. Duller. More sensitive. The products you've trusted for years suddenly cause redness and irritation. You try new ones. They don't work either. And somewhere in the back of your mind, a quiet, unsettling thought forms: Is this just who I am now?

That was my moment. And it happened almost overnight.

When perimenopause arrived, it didn't knock gently. It changed my skin in ways I wasn't prepared for and couldn't explain. I was a woman who had always taken care of herself, who had a basic skincare routine, who read labels, who paid attention. And suddenly, none of it was working. I went searching for answers and found an industry that had almost nothing to offer me. Shelf after shelf of products marketed to women half my age, filled with synthetic fragrances and hormone-disrupting ingredients that my newly sensitive skin could no longer tolerate. 

I was frustrated. And then I was determined.

The Research Begins

What started as a personal search for solutions became years of deep research into the science of hormonal skin changes. I learned that declining estrogen doesn't just cause dryness, it fundamentally weakens the skin's protective barrier, slows collagen production, reduces hyaluronic acid, and leaves skin more reactive and vulnerable than ever before. I learned that the beauty industry had known this for decades and had done almost nothing about it. I kept coming back to one word throughout my research and brand strategy process: metamorphosis.

It felt right in a way that nothing else did. Because metamorphosis is not a loss, it is a transformation. It is nature's most powerful reminder that change, even dramatic and disorienting change, can lead to something more beautiful and more resilient than what came before. A caterpillar does not mourn its former self. It surrenders to the process and emerges as something extraordinary.

I believe that is what perimenopause and menopause can be for women. If we have the right support, the right science, and the right community around us, it becomes not an ending, but a metamorphosis.

From that word, Phosis was born.
